Press release from: The Bra Recyclers

To remember the one year anniversary of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked Port-au-Prince, Haiti approaches and the country continues to face rebuilding efforts, including battling a cholera epidemic, The Bra Recyclers, a division of BB Recycling, LLC, asks women nationwide to open their drawers to support a unique cause this holiday season.

The Bra Recyclers launched a bra collection effort in November to collect gently new and used bras to donate to survivors of the Haiti earthquake in hopes of helping re-shape Haiti this holiday season. Their goal was to send 1000 bras to Haiti with their partner, Angel Wings International, in remembrance of those who were lost in the earthquake and to give hope to those who survived.

The Bra Recyclers currently supports over twenty shelters and women’s organizations and are continually expanding their outreach. Angel Wings International, who will be opening a clinic in the rural community of Jacmel, Haiti, explains first-hand the importance of extending support to Haiti. “The mission of Angel Wings International, Inc. is to improve the health and well-being of underserved individuals in the communities we aid. We are committed to providing and maintaining the highest standards of care, rooted in utmost integrity and moral practice,” Myrlande Affriany, International Director of Angel Wings International stated.

To date, The Bra Recyclers have collected an estimated 400 bras. Their goal is to send 1000 bras to the women of Haiti. Bras will be collected specifically for this cause through the end of February, with the first bra delivery being done on January 12th. Elaine Birks-Mitchell, CEO of The Bra Recyclers states, ”We are asking women and men around the country to start the New Year out by ‘supporting’ women and girls who have lost everything by going through their drawers and recycling gently worn bras.”
