Independence University Gets Approval to Offer Federal Financial Aid

01-20-2011 02:41 PM CET | Science & Education

Press release from: Independence University

Salt Lake City, Utah, January 20, 2011 – Independence University, which has been at the forefront of providing distance education for many years now, has been approved to offer federal financial aid to qualifying students.

This approval means that qualifying students who wish to pursue advanced degrees from Independence University can fund their tuition by now making use of the various federal grants and loans for which they qualify.

As part of its financial aid assistance, the university will provide a no-obligation personal financial plan to all students identifying the different federal grants and loans they are qualified to receive.

Given the skyrocketing cost of attending college, financing higher education remains one of the major concerns for aspiring candidates. By offering students these government-sponsored loans and grants, Independence University seeks to remove at least the economic barrier to higher education.

These loans and grants subsidize college for deserving and qualifying students, thus bringing post secondary education within their reach.

Among the federal grants that Independence University is approved to offer are Pell Grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG). Pell Grants are generally reserved for students with extensive financial need. SEOG is also given to students with financial need, but those who have received the Pell Grant usually get priority for this grant.

In addition to grants, Independence University also participates in a number of federal student loan programs such as Subsidized Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, and Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students.

These loans are supported by the federal government; unlike grants, loans need to be paid back by the borrowers with interest. However, lower interest rates and flexible repayment terms make federal loans a more attractive option than private student loans.

Students are advised to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form as early as possible to receive the most appropriate financial aid package for which they qualify.
