VMS reversing radar prevents hundreds of reversing accidents at leading UK company

01-20-2011 02:35 PM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: Vision Techniques

Three years after blue-chip company Tarmac launched its ‘zero tolerance’ policy on quarry site accidents, the business is seeing a dramatic improvement in vehicle safety.

Tarmac says a factor in the policy’s success is an innovative reversing radar system from vehicle specialist Vision Techniques.

Designed for vehicles in any industry, the revolutionary ‘VMS Reversing Radar’ warns drivers about reversing dangers - and actually applies the brakes itself if the warning signals are ignored.

It also enables users to set the radius in which the alarm goes off in – eradicating false alarms.

Tarmac has been fitting Vision Techniques’ safety equipment to its quarry site vehicles for 15 years.

Currently, all the company’s loading shovels are fitted with VMS and all dump trucks are fitted with Sensor Vision – another Vision Techniques’ radar system.

Owing to the innovative systems provided by Vision Techniques, reversing accidents have become few and far between at Tarmac.

Stephen Ternant, of Tarmac, said: “The systems installed by Vision Techniques’ systems have dramatically improved the safety of our vehicles.

“Reversing collisions are no longer an issue at Tarmac because of VMS and Sensor Vision.

“The innovative system also minimises false alarms.”

Andrew Kendal, of Vision Techniques, said: “There are endless dangerous scenarios which VMS reversing radar can prevent. It is a flexible solution to many vehicle safety and security fleet management issues.”

The ingenious system detects the speed and direction of the vehicle and oncoming objects – only alarming when the vehicle gets too close to the object.

VMS radar is such a success that it used by many major organisations, including ERM, Scottish Coal, and Cemex.

Vision Techniques is a vehicle safety company, which provides reversing cameras and vehicle DVR.

As well as reversing cameras there is a variety of vehicle security and safety equipment available.
