Numerous federal lawsuits seeking to hold DePuy Orthopaedics responsible for damages suffered by people who were implanted with defective DePuy hips were consolidated before the Honorable David A. Katz of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Ohio. According to Felecia L. Stern, partner at the consumer injury law firm Bernstein Liebhard LLP, the purpose of the hearing is for Judge Katz to decide which lawyers will serve on the plaintiffs’ steering committee.
The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (“MDL”) transferred the cases to Judge Katz for pre-trial purposes, which will allow Judge Katz to decide common issues that affect all persons who have been injured by the defective DePuy hip implant (http://www.consumerinjurylawyers.com/DePuy/mdl-decision).
