In one of Vienna’s most beautiful buildings, the Majolikahaus by Otto Wagner, der kleine salon has converted the old premises into their new showroom. Surrounded by the buzzing food market and the fleamarket’s turmoil, der kleine salon with its collection of hip designers for children, adds something new to this cult-area.
Popular with both locals and tourists, the “Naschmarkt” provides everything from exotic delicacies, homemade traditional food at the farmer’s market to cool cafes with a relaxed atmosphere. Here, der kleine salon has chosen the right spot, with its products ranging from organic cotton and sophisticated street wear with neon colors for children and now also for mummies, to coffee for daddy, who can relax in an Acapulco chair – a real cult-object. No excuse not to join mummy shopping anymore!

This unique little shop, designed by architect and interior designer Michaela Weisskirchner-Barfod, one of the three founders of der kleine salon, combines children's wear with a contemporary fashion atmosphere.
Consistent with der kleine salon's philosophy to support labels that produce sustainable and eco-friendly, we chose to use old furniture collected at "Caritas", where all money is used for charity-projects.
By recycling wooden fruit cases from the market der kleine salon also states its neighbourhood and placement in the area and adds some rustic feeling and roughness. And again this complies the sustainibility and recycle theme. The cases come in different sizes, some are used as shelves hung on the wall, some are podiums on the floor and some are used as boxes for toys.

Der kleine salon showroom is interesting for both parents and children. Children are able to explore and their parents can relax and feel comfortable and be inspired by the clothes and toys. This is complimented with an arrangement of Acapulco chairs, big and mini, for mums to talk and drink coffe, for dad to look through magazines and relax while mum is shopping, for children to try out the toys that can be bought.
Scandinavian Muuto lamps are used for accent lighting and for overall light old lamps from a lighting rental company are applied, that give a rough look. Simple objects are used with a twist, for example shelves are made of shelf brackets without a shelf on it.

The wall-painting developed for der kleine salon by Danish artist frkbukh, is an important part of the shop interior, adding contrast to the white furniture, and being a graphical cool element for adults and an inspiring fun drawing to look at and discover things in for children. The decoration was painted live during the opening event.
To give a feeling of exclusiveness and joy of the purchaced items, everything is tastefully wrapped in soft tissue paper and neoncolored string. Paperbags and parcels are customized with one of the many stamp-motives der kleine salon has made from frkbukhs illustration.
Der kleine salon believes in giving children space to create their own fantasy worlds and let them develop their own personality instead of reality-like prints, theme-clothes and as many colours as possible to “stimulate” them. That’s also why we love Popupshop’s simplicity, Soft Gallery’s fairytale-like prints and Kidsonroof’s recycle toys which can be decorated and used in many different ways.

DER KLEINE SALON is an international Webshop for hip children's wear and creative toys. Derkleinesalon.at carries cult labels like BOBO CHOSES, MINI RODINI, POPUPSHOP and SOFT GALLERY, which are distinct not only by their sophisticated relaxed urban style but by quality and sustainability in material and production.
