HUDSON, Mass., Jan. 19, 2011 – Baseball in winter?

Boost Fitness, the area’s premier independent fitness center, today announced the opening of Boost Baseball, which will offer year-round personal instruction, hitting and pitching tunnels, and other programs for baseball enthusiasts of all ages and levels of expertise.

Boost Baseball, 312 Main St., which opens on Jan. 24, 2011, is next door to the Hudson Boost Fitness club, so parents can work out while their children are improving their baseball skills.

“Baseball requires a great deal of skill and conditioning,” according to Mark Federico, owner of Boost Fitness and Boost Baseball. “Boost Baseball will provide the ‘boost’ that ballplayers need to perform to the best of their ability, whether they’re just looking to participate or aspiring to a professional career.”

Interested players can sign up online for a free 30-minute coach’s evaluation that includes an assessment of hitting fundamentals, fielding, throwing, pitching, strength and conditioning, and speed and agility. At the end of the evaluation, each player will receive a detailed scouting report and plan designed to develop the player’s skills.

Boost Baseball has recruited a staff of six coaches who have experience at all levels, including major league baseball.

In addition to private instruction, and hitting and pitching tunnels, programs offered at Boost Baseball will include:

Little Sluggers (ages three to five), which introduces children to athletic movements, supervised exercise and baseball.
Kick Ball (four to six) engages children in physical activity, and helps them make new friends while learning skills and rules similar to those applied to baseball and softball.
Rookie Class (six to eight) introduces new players to the game and teaches the fundamentals needed to succeed, including hitting; fielding and throwing.
Little League Academy (nine to 12) covers all aspects of the game, including hitting, fielding, catching, pitching, base running and more.
All-Star Academy (nine to 12) is an advanced program that focuses on five key areas: hitting for average, hitting for power, throwing speed, running speed and fielding.
Freshman to Varsity (13 and older) is designed for athletes seeking to continue playing baseball after Little League. Individual development plans are created to help players make the transition them from the small diamond to the regulation-sized field.
Eight-Week Pitchers Clinic focuses on pitching fundamentals and prepares pitchers for the baseball season.

“Boost Baseball is designed to help players improve fundamental skills, knowledge of the game, work ethic and overall athletic ability,” Federico said. “We opened Boost Baseball in response to a high level of market demand. Baseball is America’s national pastime and is especially popular in Massachusetts.”

Boost Fitness of Northboro, Mass. (www.myboostfitness.com) is the area’s premier independent fitness center. Boost Fitness offers individualized, group and semi-private fitness training at fitness centers in Northboro, Hudson and Westford, Mass., in addition to Boost Baseball (www.boostbaseball.com) in Hudson.

Baseball Geek Group: Jimm Hendren│Baseball in Cuba
Baseball was first introduced to Cuba in 1860s by students who returned from the US and also from Western sailors docked in the nation. It quickly became popular and was spread widely.
