Tinea pedis is an infection in the foot caused by a dermatophyte fungus such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Epidermophyton floccosum, and can spread to the nails and hands. These fungi grow in warm, humid conditions and are transmitted through direct contact with an infected person.

Tinea pedis is more common in tropical and subtropical countries. Some of the clinical symptoms of tinea pedis are maceration, visible fissures and desquamation in the interdigital areas of the hands and feet. Tinea pedis can be treated with topical antifungals in mildly infected cases; While in severe cases oral antifungal treatments are required.
