G-Note Records looking to sign Rapper Michael Barber to one album deal

Michael Barber, best known for his Motion Picture Mayhem movie-music series, is on the cusp of becoming the first signee to 50 Cent's G-Note Records. This comes after Barber released his third installment of his Motion Picture Mayhem series on Christmas of last year. His internet buzz grew rapidly with the now famous movie mix tapes, and his lack of biting his tongue had 50 Cent interested in the musician.

Barber and 50 both went through what some would say, an industry black ball. 50 Cent aka Curtis Jackson went through a shooting and a black ball after issuing his infamous track, "How to Rob" in 1999. He was dropped from Columbia Records after he was shot 9 times and survived.

Barber put out what one blogger called, "a full mix tape like 50 Cent's how to rob song", in the his mix tape with DJ Fade, The Truth. Barber's mix tape, The Truth, took shots at Joe Budden, Charles Hamilton, The Black Eyed Peas, and of course his bullying of Asher Roth. Most industry insiders have said that Roth would never recover from the attacks that Barber issued.

Barber's third installment of his Motion Picture Mayhem series is out now and is being downloaded on a record pace. It featured a guest host from the Wu Tang Clan's official DJ, Mathematics, and Barber is touring south Florida promoting the release.

G-Note Records was launched as 50 Cent tried to move his G-Unit Records into a new direction. He has plans to sign Jeremih, and UK singer, Cheryl Cole. Barber is some what of a surprise, but his production skills (credits Nas, Akon, Static Major) was probably a key reason. Barber also has a hard core indie fan base, selling 17,000 of MPM2 on Itunes after releasing it as a free download.

The status of the deal is unknown, but it seems Barber will get a two album deal with an option for a 3rd, along with creative control. Barber, who turned down a deal in 2008 with Sony over the same "creative control" issue, is currently touring with his guitarist, Josh Tifer, in a three day tour in Miami, Puerto Rico, and the Florida Keys.
