"James's talk was not only highly topical in the era of rising cybercrime but its timing underpinned the relevance of the threat to us as individuals and businesses," Isobel explained. "Our dependency upon critical information infrastructures (CII) and critical national infrastructures (CNI) was brought into sharp focus by the bad weather. As James pointed out, cyber criminals often attack our infrastructure and that's why the threat is so serious. Whilst people have been unable to get into work because of the snow, they've taken it for granted that they're able to work remotely using the internet, and be able to keep warm enough to work and even survive because utilities are still being provided to their homes."

"The attendants were made so much more aware of our dependence on our infrastructure, and the vulnerability of our way of life, such as "just in time" supply chains which are now the norm," Isobel continued. "Cyber threats are practically impossible to see in any physical way, and unfortunately we as human beings have a tendency towards "out of sight, out of mind". I believe the delegates who listened to James's presentation will appreciate that, from a business continuity management perspective, their organisations need to be cognisant of this potential threat and have plans in place to deal with cyber attack, as well as raising awareness of the problem."
