From 3rd to 5th December 2010 Frere Independent was pleased to present the Sixth Edition of the PooL Art Fair Miami Beach, at the Carlton Hotel on Collins Avenue in the heart of Miami South Beach. The Vernissage on December 3, featured music and performances by Pocket of Lollipops, and DJ Trace as well as a special video presentation by fashion designer and filmmaker Zulema Griffin.

PooL Art Fair ran concurrent with Art Basel Miami Beach, the art worlds premier annual showcase in the United States, as well as a number of other contemporary art fairs. Unlike the other fairs, which privilege gallery representation, PooL represents a unique format where artists interact directly with the public, press and art world insiders, as well as each others during a three day fair. Each artist or group of artists used a hotel room space to present their work directly to visitors.

The most of the participating artists who were invitated arrived from the United States as Leander D'Ambrosia (Arizona), Karim Marquez (Brooklyn, New York), Pat Falco (Boston), Jessica Damen (Baltimore), Marina Reiter (Washington) and many others.

All of the artists presented engaging pieces creating a stimulating environment incorporating a variety of media including photography (David Melian), painting (Xanda McCagg), three dimensional interactive installations (Adrienne Outlaw) and sculpture (Bob Clyatt).

Miami herself knows when the dear friend Art Basel is in town, because she makes her weather perfect and her skies beautiful. Then, when all the French, German and Swedish visitors leave, she gets cold as a witch's teat. But nevertheless there were not only visitors but also artists from Europe at the Pool Art Fair Miami. The French artist Christophe Cartier was showing his large size filigrane drawings and Ingrid-Johanna Koops from Hamburg in Germany did represent her abstract paintings in oil on wood or canvas.

Ingrid-Johanna Koops, known as artist G.G. JOANA, born in Hamburg/ Germany, studied at the Mystic Arts Center, Connecticut/USA at Lil Maxwell. Back in Germany she was acquainted with Markus Lüpertz, who invited her to visit his lectures at Academy Bad Reichenhall, where she developed her technique in painting. Finally Ingrid find her unique artistic signature, influenced by her lecturers Helmut Middendorf and Xiaolan Huangpu, who introduced her in traditional chinese ink painting. What a surprise that now, of all paintings, just “Macrocosm” was sold at the first day of the show.

You never know how things are going on. What is the macrocosm of art? Asking Ingrid she answers: “My inexhaustible source is the human life. As a painter I always observe and create new things passionately, colors and forms arise from my inner circle – and I´m so grateful that my works were chosen for Miami – what a magic place."
