Dec 13, 2010,Aurangabad, Ecocert India, a leading name in the field of organic and fair trade certification in the south Asian region had recently organised a business dinner to facilitate interactions between its clients and the office bearers of Organic Trade Association of the US.
“This is indeed necessary, we feel that we should make frequent deliberate attempts to go on organising meetings of Ecocert’s certified operators in south Asian region with the leading trade associations, buyers from all over the world,” said Dr. Selvam Daniel, Managing Director of Ecocert India. “The demand for organic goods is growing at a very rapid rate. More and more people around the globe wish to depart from their anti-nature lifestyles and take on the organic way of living. India could be the right supplier of quality certified organic food, cosmetics and textiles to those all consumers ” added Daniel.
Ecocert India had organised a business dinner on 8th December 2010 for Ecocert’s clients and the office bearers of Organic Trade Association of the US in Mumbai. This meet was specially organised on the occasion of Biofach India on 8 Dec 2010. OTA which is already in touch with ECOCERT US to promote organic agriculture in the US, was a special invitee for this event. The Organic Trade Association represents the organic industry in the United States. Its members include growers, shippers, retailers, processors, certifiers, farmer associations, brokers, consultants and distributors. Established in 1985, the OTA promotes organic products in the marketplace and protects the integrity of organic standards.
“We are trying to get a better understanding of the Indian organic market and its different regulations and this would really help enhance our understanding of the current state of organic trade in India.” Said Ms Jessica Poingt, International Trade Manager of the OTA who was present for this event.
Also present was Ms Tessa Young, Associate Director of Communication, OTA, Mr Bob Anderson, Senior Advisor, OTA and Ms Monica Friebl, In-charge Quality and Certification, for Gut Rozenkrantz, Germany who is interested in sourcing the organic certified goods for the European markets from India.
“This novel concept will facilitate the establishment of strong supply chains in future enabling Indian and other south Asian producers to sell their produce to US consumers,” expressed Amol Nirban, Business development officer of Ecocert India. “Moreover these interactions will also make possible the creation of supply chains among the Ecocert India’s clients. More and more such efforts will be done in future by Ecocert India to help tie our certified producers of incredibly diverse commodities with the organic consumers throughout the world.” said Nirban
