Press release from: Keene Trial Consulting

AUSTIN, Texas – The Jury Room, an informative blog authored by the trial consulting experts at Austin, Texas’ Keene Trial Consulting, has been selected by the editors of the ABA Journal as one of the nation’s Top 100 legal blogs for 2010.

The Jury Room is one of only two blogs authored by non-attorneys to be selected for the annual honor by the ABA Journal, the American Bar Association’s flagship magazine.

Drs. Douglas Keene and Rita Handrich focus on the interface between human behavior and the law in The Jury Room, one of more than 3,000 legal blogs from across the nation that were considered for the ABA Blawg 100.

“We write this blog to share what we have learned about case strategy, witness preparation, current events and current research – all viewed through the lens of litigation advocacy,” says Dr. Keene, a clinical and forensic psychologist with a national trial consulting practice. “After 15 years of consulting, research and writing for the blog has challenged us to sharpen our thinking about the nuances of this work that we love.”

The Jury Room covers topics such as how to prepare witnesses for more effective testimony, the role of racial and gender bias in jury decision-making, how best to apologize, the art and science of jury selection, jury persuasion, and voir dire. The blog also addresses generational jurors and the Internet in the courtroom.

Keene Trial Consulting was founded in 1994 to assist lawyers in the many aspects of trial preparation, including mock trials and focus groups, trial strategies, jury selection and witness preparation involving both civil litigation and white-collar criminal cases. The firm also handles post-verdict research and attitude surveys.

Dr. Keene, who is also on the faculty of the University of Texas School of Law, has testified as an expert witness on various forensic psychology and neuropsychology issues more than 100 times. Drs. Keene and Handrich (a psychologist and expert witness who joined the firm in 2000) also study the motivation and behavior of jurors, attorneys, witnesses, and judges.
