The carnival of Rio de Janeiro is a huge competition between the Escolas de Samba" (Samba Schools) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to see which one is the best carnival school of the year. It's a serious contest among different neighborhoods, divided into three leagues that vie for top ranking following the annual carnival parades. Also known as the Champion's Parade, the Winners' Parade takes place on the Saturday following Carnival, and is held again in the Sambodromo. The Salvador Carnival is by far the biggest street party in the world. Every year, around 2 million people participate on the Salvador Carnival Parades.
