Free Website Helps Older Georgians Make Informed Housing and Care Decisions
Center for Positive Aging Site Connects Seniors With Services They Need

(ATLANTA, Ga.) – A free website that helps consumers learn about housing and care options for older Georgians, such as affordable senior housing and continuing care retirement communities, is now available from the Center for Positive Aging.

The website, www.centerforpositiveaging.org, provides older Georgians, their families and caregivers with a way to quickly find essential resources as well as answers to their elder care questions via an easy-to-navigate website available at no charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“In times like these it is important to be an educated consumer when making decisions about health care options, especially those involving housing,” said Walter Coffey, president of the Center for Positive Aging and of Aging Services of Georgia, which represents mission-driven providers. “The Center for Positive Aging website helps consumers understand the network of aging services in Georgia and make smart decisions about their future.”

“Decisions about continuing care often have to be made quickly and without the luxury of time to do research,” said Coffey. “This free site helps consumers by explaining the various levels of continuing care, providing detailed information about what to look for and supplying readers with questions to ask when selecting a provider.”

Other information available includes tips on interviewing in-home caregivers, answers to elder law questions, what to look for in an assisted living community and a ZIP code search of providers. Providers are listed by type including affordable senior housing, adult day services, continuing care retirement communities, home and community-based services, hospice care and nursing homes.

The website also lists Quality Providers who adhere to certain established criteria. In order to be listed, providers of senior-related products and services, as well as congregations throughout Georgia with a ministry for seniors, must commit to being a mission-driven organization with a focus on quality, person-centered care and services. They must also meet all state licensure requirements; possess a good reputation in their local community; have a good record of performance in licensing inspections and state surveys; have leadership/ownership/management that is resident/client-focused; and, be committed to providing their staff with opportunities to develop increased proficiency and excellence.
