Dazzling Finish to IPSC Band Competition 2010 at Birla Balika Vidyapeeth Pilani Rajasthan

Everyone knows that for the last 51 years, the one constant in the Republic Day Parade has been the NCC girls’ band from Birla Balika Vidyapeeth — the Pilani Band. They are part of what has now become a tradition.

The Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC) Band Competition 2010 for boys and girls had a scintillating start on October 21, 2010 8 a.m. in the playground of Birla Balika Vidyapeeth (BBVP) Pilani. They are part of what has now become a tradition. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr Chandrashekhar Director of CSIR Laboratory CEERI, Pilani. After the IPSC flag hoisting and welcome address by Dr Kasturi Principal BBVP Pilani, the participating teams did a march-past.

Apart from BBVP Pilani, the teams which competed included BRCM, Bahl; Sainik School, Ghorakhal (Nainital); Sainik School, Kapurthala; Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hissar; Birla Public School (BPS), Pilani. The band of the Birla School established in 1901 the oldest educational institution in Pilani also was present as a guest team.

After the oath ceremony by the teams and BET Director Col Ratnakar’s address, the students of BBVP Pilani enthralled the audience with music and dance for the all time great song Mile Sur Mera Tumhara and top of the chart Jai ho. After each team did a splendid display of their prowess, Chief Guest Dr Chandrashekhar inspired the students with his speech.

The closing ceremony on October 22, 2010 included march past by all the teams, cultural item presented by students of BBVP, address by BET Director, a spectacular combined display, prize distribution, speech by the chief guest, unfurling of the IPSC Flag and vote of thanks. Shri Kapil Garg IPS Additional Director General of Police, Anti Terrorist Squad, Jaipur was the chief guest for the valedictory function. The closing ceremony on October 22, 2010 included march past by all the teams, cultural item presented by students of BBVP, address by BET Director, a spectacular combined display, prize distribution, speech by the chief guest, unfurling of the IPSC Flag and vote of thanks.

There was a thunderous applause when BBVP Pilani and Sainik School Kapurthala were declared as the winners of the competition.
