Dabangg Diwali Mela: A Social Festive Call – Joy of Giving

New Delhi, 30th October, 2010: Diwali – the festival of lights – is round the corner and the festive mood is setting in fast in Delhi and around the NCR. Residents of Delhi and the NCR are known to celebrate festivals with a big heart and a unique festival was held in Noida highlighting the joyous spirit of Diwali. Aptly called Dabangg Diwali Mela, the festival was a huge success just like the runaway Salman Khan Blockbuster Dabangg.

Rtn. Ravi Sachdeva and Members of Rotary Club of Noida Central organized an exciting new event on Saturday 30th October, 2010 at Central Park Noida: the grand Dabangg Diwali Mela - celebrating the carnival of Diwali - the festival of light. Diwali signifies the triumph of good over evil, and this Mela was also held for a noble cause, that is, to bring little light in the lives of less fortunate by funding the Arpan Medical Centre. Helping the Rotary Club of Noida in the noble cause was an array of sponsors including Gaur City, the main sponsor and Genie Groups that organized and managed the show. According to Rtn. Ravi Sachdeva, President, Rotary Club of Noida Central, “Diwali Melas are definitely an oppurtunity to let people celebrate the joyous festival of Diwali in the best of spirits. The Rotary Club uses this platform to its optimum effect for fund raising. Over the years the Club stalls have become the most popular feature of the Diwali Mela. Various innovative products are sold at the stall, which go in a long way in spreading the message of social service. “

Just when dusk began to set in, the lamp of enlightenment was lit by Shree Ashok Pradhan (Ex. Cabinet Minister, Government of India) and Honourable Guest of Honour Navita and Shree Asit Mittal (DGE). An exhibition cum sale of Diwali products like diyas, candles and merchandise ranging from jute bags, mobile covers, file folders, bottle covers, diaries to letter pad etc. were put on display. The event had power packed performances featuring Fusion Dance, Punjabi Dance, and Stage Singer performing live on stage and meandering throughout the crowd, creating a lively, festival atmosphere.

There were also more than 20 stalls placed in the hub catering to the varied interests of the lively crowd. For instance there was a puppet show and a magic show to entertain the kids, while an array of Mehendi, Tattoo, Bangles, Bindi and Hair Beader stalls kept the women busy. For those who wanted to quench their thirst of knowing their future were bestowed with the Fortune-teller, Tarot Card Reader and Talking parrot. Other attractions included live character, ring the bottle, nail art, and make up section to name a few.

But if the activities kept the guests busy, they had another big attraction - the glorious food! Traditional, Chinese and Indian cuisines were offering the freshest, mouth-watering local and global treats.

The climax of the Diwali Mela was undoubtedly a spectacular firework display symbolizing the destruction, through knowledge, of all negative forces- wickedness, violence, anger, envy, injustice, and suffering. Mr. Amit Rathore, Director, Genie Groups said, “One good thing about festive gatherings is that these can be used as an opportunity to work for a noble cause. The Dabangg Diwali Mela was organized with an aim to entertain people by taking out some time from their busy schedule and also raise awareness among them about the downtrodden needy people. Helping this noble cause fits our aim perfectly and we are delighted to offer our support, which will help patients who require medical assistance for their treatment.”

The best part about the Dabangg Diwali Mela was definitely the unforgettable affair that helped in enhancing the feeling of harmony and brotherhood in the society and also raised awareness about a good cause. “One of the main objectives of the partnership was to help charities and good causes and we are delighted for being part of such a worthwhile initiative, namely the Arpan Medical Centre which will benefit from such a generous donation.
