Dr Suphiya Khan from Banasthali Selected for 2019 Oxford Chevening Fellowship

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. This year marks its 35th anniversary. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high Commissions throughout the world.

Chevening Fellowships are an important element of Britain’s public diplomacy effort and offers opportunities to mid-career leaders and influencers from across the globe. Fellows are often people of significant standing in their home countries and have completed some element(s) of higher education already. Chevening Fellowships offer dynamic training, professional development and other opportunities for individuals to spend time in the UK, researching subject matter that is relevant to their professional interests as well as to the UK’s international strategic priorities.

Dr Suphiya Khan is presently Associate Professor Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology at Banasthali Vidyapith which is world’s largest fully residential women’s university. She is not only an accomplished researcher who is goal oriented and time bound but also committed to developing economically viable new technologies based on system changing solutions. She has received various awards viz DBT Research Associateship, Young Scientist by ISGBRD, ICAR recognition award for research and teaching and Indian National Acdemy of Sciences INSA International visting scientist fellowship. She has been awarded as a principal investigator and co investigator for various projects duly funded by UGC, MHRD, DST and DBT. Presently she is spearheading the Center of Excellence on Water and Energy funded by MHRD with Rs 2.5 Crores at Banasthali.

Dr Suphiya Khan’s path breaking research work on Fluoride removal from drinking water titled “Defluoridation technology for drinking water and tea by green synthesized Fe3O4/Al2O3 nanoparticles coated polyurethane foams for rural communities” www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-08594-7 featured (14 August 2017) in the highly respected and most cited Nature Journal drew glabal recognition for her and Banasthali. She is also emerging as bio entrepreneur with her startup venture Flo Aqua Remedies & Company Ltd founded by her which was finalist in the National Bio entrepreneurship Competition by BIRAC – C -Camp.

It is indeed a matter of immense pride that Chevening Research Science and Innovation Leadership Fellowship programme for persons with outstanding research abilities and innovation has been awarded to Dr Suphiya Khan from Banasthali.
