DALLAS – M. Brett Johnson, a principal in the Dallas office of Fish & Richardson P.C, has been named an “Up and Coming” intellectual property attorney by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, the international legal industry reference guide.

The prestigious “Up and Coming” honor is reserved for lawyers who are at the forefront of the legal profession and provide significant contributions to their firms’ growth. Among other criteria, the Chambers USA honor is based on extraordinary technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence and commitment.

Additionally, Thomas M. Melsheimer, managing principal of Fish & Richardson’s Dallas office, and David J. Healey, a principal in the firm’s Houston office were among the 20 Fish attorneys from across the country selected for individual recognition in their respective practice areas by Chambers USA. Fish’s Dallas and Houston offices also earned a top “Band 1” ranking for the firm’s Texas regional IP practice.

“Hands down, Brett is simply an outstanding lawyer,” Mr. Melsheimer says. “He has the rare ability to build a complex intellectual property and commercial case and present it in court in a way that resonates with jurors.”

Chambers USA is compiled by Chambers and Partners, a London-based publisher of guides to the world's leading law firms and lawyers. To compile the 2010 edition, researchers conducted more than 10,000 interviews with attorneys and business leaders from across the U.S. The final list can be viewed at http://www.chambersandpartners.com/usa.

Mr. Johnson practices all aspects of complex commercial and intellectual property litigation including patent, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition. In July 2009, he was part of the trial team that won a $178.7 million jury verdict on behalf of minority shareholders against NL Industries Inc. In July 2008, Mr. Johnson helped secure an $18 million patent infringement verdict on behalf of DeepNines Inc. against McAfee Inc. Additionally, Mr. Johnson is experienced in arbitration matters before the American Arbitration Association and in litigation matters before Federal District Courts and state trial and appellate courts including the Texas Supreme Court.
