Justice and taxation

‘Redistribution by progressive taxation has come to be almost universally accepted as just. Yet it would be disingenuous to avoid discussing this issue.’
F.A. Hayek, The Constitution of Liberty, London: Routledge 2009, p. 266.

Is there any form of just taxation? If so, what is it like, how can it be justified? Participants of the SMC Open Essay Contest are invited to examine the vexed relationship between justice and taxation and submit the result of their reflections no later than December 15, 2010 to: essay2010@swissmch.ch
