The great non-Equity touring production of "Beauty and the Beast" encamped this week at Starlight Theatre boasts numerous interesting performances and fruitfully pronounces the show's inherent humor and pathos. This is not a mainly high-tech affair actors, not computers, move the scenery around, there were moments on Tuesday night when it
has found wishing for more opulence than this company can deliver. The 8 p.m. curtain negated the visual effects early in Act 1 and reminds everyone that (a) it's hard to see throughout a gauze curtain without benefit of perceptible backlighting, (b) audiences should never really have to look at scenery without the improvement of stage lights. Beauty and the Beast" runs through Sunday at Starlight Theatre.
