Katie Mitura and Kathy Stark

Jacksonville, Fla., Dec. 26, 2018 – Timucuan Parks Foundation is pleased to announce it has added two new members to its board of directors. Katie Mitura and Kathy Stark have joined the nonprofit organization which protects and promotes Jacksonville’s vast network of preservation parks. Mitura is vice president of marketing and communications at Visit Jacksonville and Stark is a local artist whose favorite subject matter is natural Florida landscapes.

“We welcome Katie and Kathy to our board and are glad they are now part of our mission of promoting and preserving our area’s parks and preserves,” said Mark Middlebrook, executive director of TPF. “Our local preservation parks are part of what makes our city so appealing and we want to make sure they remain a part of Jacksonville’s landscape for future generations.”

Mitura moved to Jacksonville in 2004 and immediately fell in love with the city. She began working with Visit Jacksonville that fall to coordinate the Super Bowl communications center and answered requests for information from around the world. Mitura is now in charge of overseeing all marketing, communications and visitor center departments for Visit Jacksonville. Her main objective is to create and maximize exposure for the region as a destination for visitors. Some of her major initiatives include the Jax Ale Trail, Kids Free November, Winter on the Water and the Front Line Employee Attractions Program.

Stark is a Jacksonville native and artist who specializes in watercolor and oil painting. Most of her artwork depicts natural Florida landscapes, which she explores by hiking, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and dog walking. Stark is the creator of the book and traveling exhibit titled “The Wilderness of North Florida’s Parks”; a blend of art and education of the great unspoiled stretches of the wild park system in the North Florida region. Stark’s work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout Northeast Florida and has been collected both privately and corporately.

Mitura and Stark join a board made up of a diverse group of professionals from throughout North Florida. There is a total of 11 members on the board of directors.

About Timucuan Parks Foundation
The Timucuan Parks Foundation is a federally-recognized 501(c) (3) that preserves, promotes and protects Jacksonville’s vast network of preservation parks. The foundation dates back to 1999, when the Preservation Project Jacksonville, Inc. was established to identify and assist in acquiring the most vulnerable and environmentally sensitive lands in Duval County. The acquisition of lands created the largest urban park system in the United States, including more than 130 square miles of park space and preserves, more than 1,100 miles of river and tributary shoreline and Atlantic Ocean beachfront, and more than 100 miles of upland trails. The Timucuan Parks Foundation works with their park partners, including the National Park Service, Florida State Parks and the City of Jacksonville, to promote environmental stewardship, the health benefits of the parks and preserves for all citizens, and an appreciation for Jacksonville’s special outdoor spaces.
