Insurance Navy Shares Importance of Mexico Travel Insurance
Palos Hills, Illinois- December 21, 2018- For travelers visiting Mexico this holiday season, it is important to take into consideration that Mexico does not recognize car insurance policies from the U.S. In order to have auto insurance coverage in Mexico, travelers must purchase Mexico travel insurance.
In Mexico, foreign (including tourist) drivers are financially responsible for any physical damage or bodily injury they cause. Mexico Travel Insurance is affordable and drivers may purchase one at a local insurance office, online and over the phone.
Just like in the U.S., states in Mexico have their own set of liability insurance limit guidelines. It is important to check the liability car insurance guidelines for the state a tourist is driving in.
Travelers considering entering Mexico by car will need a car permit. Car permits in Mexico cost $44 and must be paid with a credit card. Permits may be purchased at the U.S./Mexico border.
For a car permit, tourists will need the following documents:
-Proof of car ownership
-Proof of registration
-An affidavit from any lien holders
-A valid driver’s license
-Proof of citizenship
Tourists are also required to show a passport when leaving and reentering the U.S., including infants and children. The U.S. Department of State recommends that U.S. tourists use toll (quota) roads and avoid driving overnight as much as possible for safety reasons.
