World Progress Report Announces Expansion of its New Series: Exposing Scams and Identity Theft

08-27-2010 01:10 PM CET | Politics, Law & Society

Press release from: World Progress Report

World Progress Report Is Distributed Directly To Public Television And Is Not Associated With PBS

World Progress Report recently announced its decision to expand their Identity Theft and Scam Series to include additional topics. “We had such a great response to our identity theft segment with the FBI that we wanted to provide even more resources to our viewers by including additional relevant topics in our program,” said the Executive Producer of the series. “In fact, we’re looking to produce segments on child identity theft scams for our series, which seems to be the newest scheme thieves are using to evade authorities.”

Growing at a surprising rate, child identity theft is becoming an appealing way of stealing personal information in today’s society. According to a recent article, over 400,000 children are affected each year. Since children have no need to open checking, credit or other monetary accounts, thieves are thriving on stealing their social security numbers to open financial accounts and incur debt with the stolen identity. Unfortunately, discovery of this crime most often occurs many years later when the child is fully grown. Though devastating, there are ways to protect children from becoming the victim.

Annual credit reports are a very valuable resource for parents and individuals alike. By making sure a credit report is filed each year, you can monitor the security of your personal information. Also, storing your child’s social security number in a safe place is highly recommended as well as making sure documents containing personal information are shredded. “Since Public Television is such a powerful tool for education, our objective is to provide valuable content to our viewers that can help them avoid a variety of identity theft scams. By doing this, we hope to have a positive impact on our society and ultimately prevent families from experiencing this damaging crime,” said the Executive Producer of the series.
