Press release from: Articulon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (August 11, 2010)—The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (thecot.org), announces today it has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the North Carolina Arts Council (ncarts.org) using federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts. The grant will be devoted to audience expansion of the organization’s May 15, 2011 concert, titled The Genius and his Foe, through multiple advertising and marketing avenues.

In addition, a half-hour lecture is being added in which Lorenzo Muti, COT artistic director and conductor, will explain the distinctions between the concert’s two complex and beautiful requiems: the Salieri C Minor and the Mozart D Minor. The Concert Singers of Cary will accompany The COT for the afternoon performances.

Entering its 28th concert season, The COT continues to advance its mission of presenting exceptional music performances to area residents and engaging young people through classical music. Grants and donations have enabled the organization to offer free seating to all students and bring the nation’s most talented emerging young musicians to perform in the Triangle.

“We are grateful for this grant from the N.C. Arts Council; it will enhance our performance appreciably,” says David Lindquist, board chair for The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. “The sustained support of regional and national foundations and the devoted generosity of hundreds of individuals have allowed us to entertain Triangle residents for nearly three decades.

The COT is considered one of the finest professional ensembles in North Carolina and the Southeast. Under the leadership of Lorenzo Muti, the orchestra continually presents a well-chosen and unusual repertoire that delights audiences and critics.

The N.C. Arts Council awards grant money each year to provide diverse arts experiences for citizens in all 100 counties of North Carolina. From more than 800 proposals, the Arts Council awarded more than 300 grants this year. In fiscal year 2010-11, the Arts Council is expected to distribute $7.4 million in state and federal grant funds to arts organizations, schools and other nonprofit organizations that sponsor arts programs.

“The support of our grants program by the General Assembly demonstrates the role the arts play in our quality of life,” says Mary B Regan, executive director of the N.C. Arts Council. “Nonprofit arts organizations employ workers, stimulate commerce, generate tax revenues and help communities retain their vibrancy.”
