Guru Nanak 550th Birth Anniversary Celebrations Prakash Utsav at Banasthali Rajasthan

Guru Nanak Gurpurab is celebrated as the day to remember the first Sikh Guru who laid the foundation of Sikhism and is a reminder for the devotees to follow his teachings which spread the message of oneness and harmony and devote their life in the selfless service of God.

Appreciated by the world at large, Banasthali firmly believes that to be top ranking, it is the foremost responsibility of any Indian educational institution to nurture humans with the tolerant and harmonious view of life as envisaged in the Indian culture the spirit of which has been beautifully captured in the Indian Constitution by the founding fathers of the nation. It is a matter of great pride that Banasthali library houses an original copy of the Constitution of India and the founder of Banasthali Pandit Hiralal Sastri as a member of the Constituent Assembly was a signatory to the same.

To reinforce the fivefold education Panchmukhi Shiksha evolved over decades, Banasthali has established a rich tradition of celebrating various days of national and international significance throughout the year. With 16000 students coming from different parts of India, the 850 acre Banasthali campus itself is a mini India echoing the lines of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in National anthem “Panjaba-Sindhu-Gujarata-Maratha Dravida-Utkala-Banga.”

The rich ethnic diversity of India truly comes alive when the campus celebrates Hariyali Teej, Janmasthami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratra Dandiya & Garba, Durgasthami, Dusshera, Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Eid al Fitr, Christmas, Lohri, Basant Panchami and Holi. During these celebrations, the students and faculty of Banasthali add a spectrum of colours and gaiety to campus life and indeed rise above caste and creed and develop mutual respect for all religions.

Guru Nanak the founder of Sikhism, firmly believed that there was one god and every human was capable of reaching him through sincere prayer, though he didn't encourage sacrificing family life to achieve this. All his teachings were compiled as hymns in the sacred book, the Guru Granth Sahib. To mark the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, on 23 Nov 2018, entire Banasthali community came together to the pandal in front of Gyan Mandir where Banasthali choir rendered soul stirring Shabad Kirtan and Gurbani. After the Bhajans, the program ended with distribution of Prasad.

The students and faculty who attended the Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of a top ranking institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe.
