Press release from: Thieme Publishers

New York/Stuttgart, August 2010 – Thieme welcomes Dr. James P. Stannard to the “Journal of Knee Surgery.” As editor-in-chief, Stannard, an award-winning author and renowned specialist in the field, brings his expertise and enthusiasm to this flagship journal, recently acquired by Thieme Publishers.

"I feel grateful for the opportunity to assume the role of editor-in-chief of the Journal of Knee Surgery. It is an opportunity to have a major impact on the literature relative to knee surgery and also a great opportunity to help surgeons, who share my interest in knee surgery, have access to key articles and techniques regarding knee surgery," states James P. Stannard, MD.

Dr. Stannard was the senior editor of the bestselling title Surgical Treatment of Orthopaedic Trauma that received first place awards from the Association of American Publishers and the British Medical Book Association. After graduating from Brown University and the University of Virginia Medical School, he served ten years in the military and spent 13 years at the University of Alabama focusing on knee surgery and complex injuries of the knee. He has authored around 50 peer-reviewed articles and is currently the J. Vernon Luck Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri.

The “Journal of Knee Surgery” reports on issues relating to the orthopedic techniques of arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and reconstructive surgery of the knee joint. In addition to peer-review articles, this periodical details emerging surgical techniques and includes case studies, reviews, and special focus sections on for instance, trauma and sports medicine.

Building on the exceptional foundation of the publication the new associate editors, Andy Schmidt, Greg Fanelli, and Steven Harwin, along with Dr. Stannard and the recently appointed editorial board, aim to expand and maintain its position as one of the world's leading scientific journals.
