International Advocacy Group Expands Online Resource Center for Victims of Traumatic Brain Injury
NEW YORK, N.Y. – First launched in 2007 in Australia, the BiC Brain Injury Center has become a leading international online resource for victims of traumatic brain injury. Currently in the process of expanding its U.S.-based site, the organization is seeking inquiries from personal injury lawyers, counselors, psychologists, therapists and financial advisors interested in advertising their services in the site’s directory. In accordance with the site’s mission, the directory will serve as a comprehensive resource for brain injury victims and their families seeking compassionate, experienced professionals who can provide assistance during the recovery period and beyond.“Traumatic brain injuries are the cause of a substantial number of deaths and permanent disability each year,” said Christian King, sociologist, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) Counselor and director of the BiC Brain Injury Center. “While awareness is increasing, many fail to realize that the impact of a brain injury isn’t only physical, nor does it solely impact the victim. Brain injuries can create a number of emotional, legal and financial challenges for both the victim and his or her family. Therefore, it’s imperative that they have easy access to the tools and resources they need to seek physical and emotional healing, as well as assistance with financial, legal and other matters that may arise.”
According to recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.7 million people sustain accidental traumatic brain injuries annually in the U.S. In response to this data, the BiC Brain Injury Center aims to serve as a premiere resource for individuals directly and indirectly impacted by brain injuries by providing a central online location for information, resources, tools and professional care and consulting.
The BiC Brain Injury Center currently provides detailed data on the types, causes and effects of brain injuries, latest news and developments and cognition and memory rehabilitation games. The site also includes an extensive directory of associations and hospitals, as well as housing and travel resources organized by state.
The site’s administrators are currently developing a comprehensive database of lawyers, counselors, psychologists, therapists and financial advisors that specialize in rehabilitation for victims of traumatic brain injuries and their families. The database will be an invaluable source of consultants that are experienced in helping victims and their families navigate the recovery process, and short-term and long-term challenges including memory problems, changes in behavior and personality, lack of awareness of deficits, loss of cognitive and vocational skills, loss of vision and other issues.
“When a loved one suffers from a brain injury, they are often greatly incapacitated and must rely on knowledgeable professionals to help them and their families regain a sense of normalcy, which may take anywhere from three to five years after an injury has been sustained,” said King. “We are committed to advocating for victims of traumatic brain injuries, and ensuring that should the need ever arise, they can easily access the resources they need to lessen the impact on their lives.”
