New generation of toggle switches and master controllers

Munich, 14.07.2010: Under the motto “On track with global Expertise”, Schaltbau GmbH is appearing at the InnoTrans international trade fair in Berlin (21 to 24.09.2010), where it is presenting a new generation of master controllers and toggle switches for driver’s desks. The new toggle switches are highly integrated and even easier to install than their predecessors. The master controllers are also ideal for large-scale production, since they feature rapid-fit connection technology and are produced using a rational assembly method. In addition, the presentation also includes a circuit vacuum breaker and railway contactors. Further information is available directly at InnoTrans, Hall 2.2, Stand 202, or at www.schaltbau-gmbh.com.

In addition to the screw-type connection, the connection variants of the toggle switches have been extended with a cage draw spring connection and a rational plug connection. For the first time, the port is round (30 mm diameter) and, featuring anti-twist protection, blends perfectly into current desk designs.

UIC 612 conformity of the mounting dimensions

The fully insulated housing makes it possible to dispense with an earth connection. Due to a coloured lighting facility, equipping with max. eight changeover contacts and the possibility for use in desk boards between 2 and 10 mm thick, they are ideally equipped for all demanding tasks. In spite of the high functionality, a width of only 34 mm has been attained, thus assuring UIC 612 conformity of the mounting dimensions.

Rapid-fit connection technology and rational assembly method

The new master controllers are also ideal for large-scale production, since they feature rapid-fit connection technology and are produced using a rational assembly method. Due to the fact that the snap-action switches are arranged together on one PCB, any maintenance and repair work can be performed in a fraction of the time typically required. The design is geared to the new toggle switch generation and is currently available as a master/brake controller and preset speed selector. Both the master controller and toggle switches have been designed by a leading design studio. The visible control elements are made from an attractive two-colour material combination of plastic and aluminium.

Efficient extinguishing of the electric arc

A further exhibit is the CT1000 series of railway contactors. This contactor combines the advantages of electromagnetic and permanent-magnetic blowout for light arc control in one system. The CL contactor series is new. To date, Schaltbau’s product range only comprised contactors in the low voltage range up to 1000 Volt and in the high voltage range from 3000 Volt. The CL contactor, which is suitable for a nominal voltage of 1500 Volt, closes this gap. The contactor series is available as a single, double and triple-pole version. The circuit vacuum breaker, which is also on show, is an AC vacuum circuit breaker that requires virtually no energy for the reliable activation of the contact wire voltage, since the energy required for its function is stored in a coil spring.

“Connect – Contact – Control” is the motto under which Schaltbau GmbH develops and manufactures electromechanical products for railway equipment and industrial applications. Founded in 1929, the company has nine locations of its own and more than 50 sales partners worldwide. Subsidiaries among other things in France, Great Britain, the USA, China and India emphasise the company’s international orientation. The product portfolio includes connectors, snap-action switches, contactors, and command and messaging devices. The company carries out development both for specific orders and for series production. Its products are distinguished by their high quality, great reliability and long lifetime. The Schaltbau GmbH quality management system is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001, and its ecological management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001. Since 2004 the company has been certified as a Q1 Supplier for the Deutsche Bahn (German state railways).
