A team from Norwich University Hospital along with Dr Tom Turmezei developed a 3D mapping technique that can detect arthritis on an early stage. He and his team used computerized tomography (CT) scans to detect changes in arthritic hip joints. This technique termed joint space mapping (JSM) was tested on human hip joints. The results were published in journal Scientific Reports which showed that 3D mapping was twice as effective as X-rays at detecting small structural changes.
