Modelled after the British education system, the Hong Kong education system is known to be one of the best in the world. Every child who reaches the age of 6 is required by law to attend a primary school. While education in the public sector is free, private schools, international schools, and English Schools Foundation charge tuition fee. Hong Kong is also known for being one of the most expensive places to study.

In general, private international schools charge higher tuition fee, and follow its sponsor nation’s curriculum (British, French, American, Canadian, etc). English Schools Foundation, on the other hand, provides lower tuition fees than international schools.

Based on data from Edarabia.com, we have compiled a list of the schools with lowest and highest fees, and the average annual fee for each school.

Hong Kong has about 537 local schools and 44 international schools.
There are around 362,049 students enrolled in primary schools

On average, these private schools in Hong Kong have the lowest school fees: ELCHK Lutheran Academy (HKD 67,528), Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School (HKD 94,549), and ESF Island School (HKD 110,961)
Meanwhile, these private schools in Hong Kong have the highest school fees: Hong Kong Academy (HKD 189,320), Harrow International School Hong Kong (HKD 178,183), and Kellett School (Pok Fu Lam Preparatory) (HKD 164,400).

The average cost of schooling among the least expensive schools in Hong Kong is about HKD 100,820 per year.
Parents who wish to enrol their children among the most expensive schools can expect to pay at an average of HKD 177,591 per year.
Tuition fee among IB /British schools are higher.
