Catfish Jean

Catfish Jean

North Miami, FL (June 2010) – Miami Beach High School alumni, Catfish Jean has joined the cast of "Douglass U', a comedy film about a young man's unexpected freshman experience at one of the country's (fictitious) premiere Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Catfish (born Matthew Jean) later received a BFA in Theater from California Lutheran University. He made his movie debut at the age of 15 in an independent film and later worked on "Out of Time" starring Denzel Washington. He also was in "Bad Boys 2" with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, as a Haitian Zoe Pound Member. Catfish has worked on various projects since moving to Los Angeles, including, "ThunderChance" (which won honorable mention at the ATSA Awards), H&R Block and MSN commercials, and most recently, Alicia Key's "Un-Thinkable" video. He is also working on a web series, "The Catfish Show."

"Douglass U", which will begin principal photography on July 31st in Los Angeles, was written by the film's star, actor / producer / writer, Hari Williams ("Studio", "My Letter to Hip Hop"). In this urban comedy, we see a portion of the freshman year journey of an African American kid ("Aaron" played by Williams) as he transitions from an all white high school to a HBCU. Through it all, he finds that he has the support of his three boys, "Rafael" (played by Johnny Soto - "Ocean's 13", "Zoey 101"), "Darryl" (played by Ashford J. Thomas, - "Prince Among Slaves"), and Catfish's character, "Kwazi".

When asked about his latest project, Catfish responded, "It's crazy to see how far I've come. I made a sacrifice to come to LA so that I could pursue my dream of becoming a successful actor. Much like my parents took that leap of faith, moving from Haiti to Miami, just so they could succeed."

"Douglass U" is being produced by I Will Make You A Star Productions, LLC and Thought Collective Productions. Williams, Charles Belk and Wiley B. Oscar will serve as the film's producers.

Catfish Jean is the son of North Miami residents, Alfred and Jeanine Jean.
