ABB Robotics hosts its largest ever Partner Seminar

2010-05-26 - The third ABB Robotics Asian Partner seminar was held in Shanghai on May 13-14 and attracted over 400 visitors
This exciting annual event is now the largest in the ABB Robotics Partner Program calendar and was held in conjunction with ABB Automation World, China.

In opening the event the new head of ABB Robotics, Mr Mark Kingsley, emphasised to partners from over 20 countries the importance of working together in Asia. He presented clear examples of how technical & commercial innovation would be future growth drivers, and how ABB and its partners can collaborate to move proven solutions across borders to the benefit of all. He also made a passionate plea to everyone present to help to elevate the nature of work in Asia by removing people from tasks that are dull, dirty & dangerous

Global Partner Program in Robotics
Oliver Cafmeyer , manager for the ABB Robotics Global Partner Program, spoke of the importance of ABB's structured partner program approach and the value and benefits that can be gained by working together. "This is a true Win-Win opportunity" he told the audience "We already have over 2000 partners in the program and we continue to expand - especially in Asia".

Technology & innovation is part of the ABB DNA
Dr. Chun-yuan Gu, head of research & development for ABB Robotics, China, introduced the "Top Ten" new technologies that ABB will introduce during 2010. These include a new generation of part positioners, new robots & grippers, new support software and motor packages. He further confirmed ABB's commitment to continue to invest heavily in R&D and to bring more exciting new technologies to market.

Partners present their success stories
Three partners from Asia presented how collaboration with ABB was enabling their businesses to be successful in the very competitive Asian market. Clyde Campbell of MAR in Australia illustrated the innovative work being undertaken in the area of robotic meat preparation & packing. Chen ChengFang of Xiamen Siert Robot System Co., China presented a number of innovative & technically advanced welding solutions based on ABB robots and finally Ming Zhu of Hangzhou HanCheng Welding-Cutting Technology Co., China showed examples of successful robotic solutions for manufacturing motorcycles and garden furniture.

Opportunities for learning & collaboration
On the second day, held in the new ABB Robotics Shanghai facility, ABB Group Executive Vice President and Head of Discrete Automation & Motion Division, Mr Ulrich Spiesshofer, opened the proceeding by welcoming everyone & emphasising the importance of partners, especially in China and the Asian region. He also voiced his pride in the fact that ABB Robotics has its headquarters in the heart of the region in Shanghai.
Over 400 visitors attended the exhibition to see 13 live demonstrations
In the exhibition area participants had the chance to interact with thirteen live demonstrations and to participate in ten in-depth break-out sessions including:

* New robots update from small, medium and paint robot ranges
* Offline Programming with RobotStudio & the 5 PowerPacs
* Opportunities in Paint, Electronics & Electrical (3C) and Food & Beverage
* New support products PickMaster 5, SafeMove, Remote Service & Arc Welding equipment

In addition to providing the opportunity for partners to interact with ABB, the event also provided the chance for ABB to listen to partners and for participants to set up the collaborations that are so important in today’s fast-moving Asian marketplace.

100% find business value
In his closing comments at the Gala Dinner, Head of Robotics Product Group, Mr. Anders Nylander, thanked everyone for attending and invited all ABB's Asian Partners to join him again in 2011 for what has become a regular event on the ABB calendar. And it looks certain that they will; 100% of attendees confirmed that they found the event of value to their businesses and would definitely attend again.
