Banasthali Durga Ashtami 2018 Celebrations Galore

Durga signifies the innermost power of consciousness and the goddess is forever taking shape within and around us as the creative and transformative force that is the essence of the cosmic life for overcoming all difficulties.

With students coming from different parts of India, the 850 acre Banasthali campus itself is a mini India echoing the lines of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in National anthem “Panjaba-Sindhu-Gujarata-Maratha Dravida-Utkala-Banga.” To reinforce the fivefold education - Panchmukhi Shiksha, Banasthali has established a rich tradition of celebrating various days of national and international significance throughout the year.

Durga Ashtami also known as Maha Ashtami is the 8th day of Navaratri and is the most important day of 9 Divine Nights of Goddess worship (Navratri) in India. There are several mythological stories related to this day and the most common is that Durga Ashtami commemorates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon, Mahishasur.

The rich ethnic diversity of India truly came alive when the entire Banasthali campus celebrated Durga Asthami on Oct 17, 2018 morning at Brahm Mandir where a huge idol of the goddess had been installed. After the Poojan performance by Vice President Prof Siddharth Shastri, Banasthali choir renders several devotional songs in praise of goddess Shakti. The celebrations concluded with Arti. Since the day also marks 20th anniversary of Banasthali co-founder Smt Ratan Shastri remembrance, floral tributes were paid with a firm resolve to carry forward the mission and vision of the institution.

The students and faculty of Banasthali who came for Durga Ashtami celebrations left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of a top ranking institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe.
