mmm - MICE market monitor 10: First results on outbound trends

tmf – travel marketing factory GmbH, IMEX 2010: The so eagerly wooed outbound German-speaking meetings- and incentive-market (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) is the centrepiece of attention in the yearly market research mmm – MICE market monitor. First results on trends and tendencies are now ready and will be presented by Johanna Fischer, managing director and co-owner of tmf GmbH, at IMEX 2010.
Preferred destinations, the order situation in the agencies as well as in the corporations and the budget development for events – these are the topics that the study has focused on. This year, 438 event planners in agencies as well as in corporations have answered the online questionnaire that was sent out between February and April 2010.
A first clear result is: Spain keeps being on the forefront of preferred destinations. With 36 percent, more than one third of the enquired planners will hold meetings, incentives, congresses or events in Spain in the next twelve months. On second position is the neighbour destination of the German-speaking region, Italy. 29 percent will be organising their events there, closely followed by France with 28 percent. Great Britain and the United States hold their fort on positions four and five. Due to the good exchange rate between the euro to the American dollar and the British pound, these destinations could strengthen their positions.
However, request for European destinations have returned to their status of 2008. 30 percent of the event planners are of the opinion that European destinations are requested more often compared to 2009. Also the request for long-haul destination has increased. Being 6 percent in 2009, it has now doubled to 12 percent this year.
An important result is also that despite the financial crisis, incentive programmes have not lost their importance in the industry. 24 percent even state that incentive programmes are more important nowadays than three years ago. For more details results of the market research study, Johanna Fischer will be having a presentation at IMEX Frankfurt 2010, on Wednesday 27 from 8:30 to 10:00 am in room Genius, level 9.1, Hall 9.
Further information on the study:
The mmm – MICE market monitor is one of its kind, as it is the only research study that focuses exclusively on the German-speaking outbound market. The study is carried out by tmf GmbH in co-operation with IMEX Frankfurt for the seventh consecutive year. This year the sponsors of the study were Beglium Tourism and Wallonie Brussels, the Spanish tourist office in Frankfurt, Oficina Española de Turismo, VisitSweden and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. The results are especially interesting for convention bureaus, hotel chains and other suppliers in the destinations. However, also the German-speaking planners profit from getting an insight into what the overall situation is in Germany/Austria/Switzerland.

tmf GmbH and piranha presse & pr GmbH are pioneering a pan-European and global approach to dialogue marketing in the MICE industry. tmf is continuously searching for new solutions and best practice for our clients - leading convention bureaus, tourist offices, hotels, associations of suppliers and top-level venues in Europe and worldwide. Well-established in the German-speaking market for over 15 years, both agencies have further expanded their portofolio into other significant European and overseas outbound markets in recent years, to meet the increasing demand from clients for one-stop solutions.
