Banasthali Leads from the Top in Alumni Alma mater Connect

While the ivy league institutions Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, Purdue, MIT, Insead, LSE, etc are well known for their high degree of alumni Alma mater connectivity, some of the high profile examples of alumni connectivity with Alma mater in India include Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani, ISB, Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIM Ahmedabad and last but not the least Banasthali established in 1935 which happens to be the World’s largest fully residential women’s University.

Banasthali firmly believes that Human capital is just as beneficial to the sustained vitality of a university and can be just as important, if not more, than purely financial support. Marie-Curie Fellow at Universite Du Maine, France; Royal Society Exchange Visitor to the University of Nottingham and recipient of the prestigious J.C. Bose Memorial Award Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor Banasthali who himself is an alumnus of BITS Pilani, State University of New York SUNY Stony Brook, and MIT USA spearheads the Alumni Alma mater connect initiatives of Banasthali right from the forefront.

It is well known that from the making of the film to the film’s intended audience, the film industry is a largely male dominated field where Women continue to face double standards. In such a field, Anuradha Singh Proud alumnus of Banasthali came to be known for her Editorial work on the Hollywood Film multiple Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire (2008), The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014) and Million Dollar Arm (2014). She is the first woman from India to have worked as an independent editor for four Hollywood films such as Marigold, Blood Money, Wings of Legacy and The Forest. Her Bollywood stint includes films such as Viidhu Vinod Chopra Mission Kashmir etc. She is also known for the documentaries made by her like Touch the Sky with Glory, Ek Lamha (on cancer) and In Front of My Eyes (on police atrocities).

Ms Avani Chaturvedi is First women Fighter Pilot in Indian Air Force graduated from Banasthali BTech Computer Science 2010 - 2014. The headcount of women in the armed forces is upwards of 3,300, including 1,300 in the air force, but combat roles were off-limits to them until the IAF took the lead in crushing internal resistance to grant them equal opportunities. Proud to be Banasthalite, Avani is one among the three women who were chosen for combat role and is a matter of pride that she flies Mig – 21 Bison with top speed 2230 Kmph and has also undergone training for flying supersonic Sukhoi – 30 Jets.

On 06 Oct 2018, Banasthali had one of the largest gathering of students to witness the conversation of Vice Chancellor fondly referred by one and all as Aditya Bhaiya Prof Aditya Shastri with two illustrious alums namely Ms Anuradha Singh and Ms Avani Chaturvedi first Indian Woman Fighter Pilot. The ease and sense of humor with which Prof Aditya Shastri anchored and carried out the conversation will give a run for money for most of the current professionals hosting Talk Shows and what not.

Both the alumni narrated their life journey so far and fondly recalled their student days at Banasthali, hostel life, mess food, the extracurricular activities and the nonstop vibrancy in the campus and urged the current students to take pride in being students of Banasthali. Both the alumni answered with ease various questions put up by the audience.

With the Alma mater Passion Quotient P.Q and Curiosity Quotient C.Q. elevated, the students and faculty who witnessed the conversation, left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe.
