Düsseldorf. The Japanese word den-ki means “electric,” while the word so-chi means “equipment” or “devices.” The two syllables ‘den’ and ‘so’ combined make up the name of a company that has played an important role in the world market since its founding in the late 1940s: DENSO, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, convinces customers from industries such as retail, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, as well as sales and field service with its solutions for mobile data collection. DENSO laid the foundation for mobile data collection in 1982, when the company developed the world’s first CCD scanner. Just four years later, this CCD scanner was sold in Europe for the first time. For today’s DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, this symbolizes the start of their European business. They are now based in Düsseldorf. For more than 30 years, the experts for mobile data collection have now been successful in the development of data collection devices and handheld scanners, for example with Android. In 1994, DENSO achieved another, very special milestone: the invention of the QR Code. Since then, the QR Code has been a global success, honoured with the European Inventor Award and is now in daily use internationally. In addition, it has been adapted to the requirements of today: The SQRC® combines the unique advantages of the QR Code with the addition of security. It is visually indistinguishable from a conventional QR Code, but represents a forgery-proof alternative in the field of mobile data collection. More information on innovative RFID devices, secure handheld terminals and hand scanners with Android, solutions for mobile data collection, the QR Code, and the DENSO Auto-ID Business can be found at DENSO’s website. An overview of the handhelds from the BHT series of the past 30 years can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=332ctUlU_kI

Why DENSO’s data collection devices have scored for more than 30 years

DENSO, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, has been partnering with many of its customers for over 20 years. “Our customers and partners greatly value the mobile data collection devices. They can rely on DENSO as a company, because we guarantee high quality and unparalleled reliability,” says Sina Haupt, Marketing Assistant of the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit. In addition to the popular BHT series, their high-quality support has been a hit for many years. “Through our partner network, we maintain service and repair centres across Europe. They are trained and certified by the DENSO engineers,” explains Haupt. Although the data collection devices and scanners of the mobile data collection specialists have a very low failure rate, the engineers of DENSO, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, are available for on-site repairs and help, in case difficulties do occur. Because good service is very important at DENSO.

The handheld terminals and scanners speak for themselves

The popular BHT series from DENSO score particularly well with customers from, for example, retail and logistics. Their high reading speed, good and simple operation, as well as their robustness and durability are clear advantages for the handling of the handhelds and scanners – and have been for over 30 years. The launch of the BHT-1700 and BHT-1800 is another important achievement in the history of the company. The two handhelds are equipped with Android and redefine both size and ergonomics. “Our BHT-1800 Android handheld terminal comes with a 5” superscreen for great readability,” says Haupt. “Furthermore, the new BHT-1700 Android handheld is equipped with an extra-large display: It offers many features with a 4“ mega display with keyboard.” The BHT-1700 Android handheld is thus practically at the limit of a data collection device with keyboard. With the BHT-1800 Android handheld, a touch computer has been developed whose screen pushes the boundaries. It has the largest display on a mobile data collection device since DENSO was founded. Further information on the innovative devices, RFID and NFC, secure handheld terminals and hand scanners, the QR Code, solutions for mobile data collection, and the DENSO Auto-ID Business Unit can be found at https://www.denso-autoid-eu.com/en.html.

Demands of the future for the specialists for mobile data collection

The highly competitive market of today requires more and more devices that combine classic mobile data collection with the advantages of a smartphone. Moreover, consumer smartphones themselves are increasingly being used in industries such as retail and logistics. “It is important not to stop and always meet high expectations with the launch of new products,” says Haupt. “At DENSO, we take our job very seriously to deliver technological innovations that are safe and durable. That is why our customers in retail and logistics can count on our handhelds and scanners.” Although three decades of innovation and exciting news regarding handhelds and scanners are in itself reason enough to celebrate, the specialists for mobile data collection at DENSO, part of the Toyota Group and inventor of the QR Code, are not even thinking about taking a break. “The future will continue to be driven by technological innovation. And we clearly want to do our part,” says Haupt, looking forward to seeing new handhelds and scanners from the popular BHT series, market launches, and innovations regarding technologies such as RFID and NFC.
