Meadows Hospital - Bloomington, IN

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – (April 14, 2010) – Meadows Hospital, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, recently hosted “The Reality Store” to help youth connect academic achievement with the type of lifestyle they hope to have when they are on their own.

Participants received a simulated salary for a chosen career, based on what they expect to be their highest level of education. They then used their “salary” to pay for expenses related to marriage, children, pets, entertainment and other real-life factors. The Reality Store helped Meadows patients understand the many expected, as well as unexpected, expenses they could be face down the road.

“At Meadows Hospital, we appreciate the value in a comprehensive treatment program that helps patients with many aspects of their lives,” said Chief Executive Officer Jean Scallon.

“The Reality Store not only offers patients a better understanding of the importance of an education, but it showcases different challenges and opportunities they may face in the future.”

The Reality Store is a program of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce’s Franklin Initiative, a 501(c)(3) organization named for Benjamin Franklin. During the 2008-2009 school year, the program reached more than 1,000 students in Bloomington.
