DN connectors from Schaltbau GmbH: Watertight according to IP69K

Munich, 12 April 2010: Schaltbau DN Series connectors are now watertight according to IP69K, plugged and unplugged. This is true for both the metal and plastic version. The connector has been tested under pressure of 80 up to 100 bar and at a water temperature of 18°C. This makes the connector especially suitable to withstand pressurized cleaning. It is also suitable for use in the foodstuff industry and for outdoor applications. More at www.schaltbau-gmbh.com.

Schaltbau connectors are designed for use in difficult conditions, especially where human lives and valuable property depends on reliable technology.

Quick and reliable connection through bayonet coupling

The DN family is available in two model series; the tough metal housing is made from nickel-plated die-cast zinc, and the plastic housing is made from durable plastic. The DN connector is structured on a modular basis, which means that housings are available for shrink boots, cable sleeves and braided screen connections. The bayonet coupling ensures fast, safe connections. Orientation is via bayonet latch positions in the housing. The mechanical working life of the metal variant is 5,000 mating cycles, and that of the plastic version is around 1,000. Both versions are available in each case with a different number of poles. The DN model series can be used at temperatures from -55°C to +85°C. It complies with the requirements of standard IEC 60512.

High contact reliability even at low currents and voltages

The connectors are fitted with Schaltbau's patented, self-cleaning spring contact system, and the spring-loaded contacts with self-cleaning faces are gilded. This gives a high level of resistance to shock and vibration. In addition, it ensures a low volume resistance for consistently high contact reliability even with low voltages and currents. The variable structure of the DN Metal series also allows the use of screen attenuation and filter discs to prevent disturbance from external EMI factors.

“Connect – Contact – Control” is the motto under which Schaltbau GmbH develops and manufactures electromechanical products for railway equipment and industrial applications. Founded in 1929, the company has nine locations of its own and more than 50 sales partners worldwide. Subsidiaries among other things in France, Great Britain, the USA, China and India emphasise the company’s international orientation. The product portfolio includes connectors, snap-action switches, contactors, and command and messaging devices. The company carries out development both for specific orders and for series production. Its products are distinguished by their high quality, great reliability and long lifetime. The Schaltbau GmbH quality management system is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001, and its ecological management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001.
