Taiwan fosters four key intelligent industries
The Executive Yuan will inject at least NT$15 billion over the next six years into promoting cloud computing, intelligent electric vehicles, intelligent eco-friendly architecture, patent commercialization and other industries. So declared Premier Wu Den-yih at the Exploring Blue-ocean Opportunities for Intelligent Industries Forum hosted by the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association on March 23.Despite its paucity of natural resources, Taiwan has the wisdom of its people as its greatest asset, the so-called dynamic soft power. For instance, the information and communications technology (ICT) sector has been the leading industry for the past 30 years. Amid fierce competition, 14 of Taiwan’s ICT products enjoy top global market share. These goods are a product of the people’s wisdom.
Marrying Taiwan’s well-developed battery and car part manufacturers with its ICT industry can create a solid foundation for the intelligent electric vehicles sector. Taiwan’s car designs are thus expected to be very competitive in the global market. Meanwhile, intelligent eco-friendly architecture combines the benefits of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, conserving energy and providing a dynamic, responsive environment that make life healthier and easier. Research on how this all comes together has begun six months ago by the Taipei Financial Center Corp.
The government is promoting these emerging intelligent industries to pave the way for long-term industrial development. Integrating the strengths and resources of Taiwan’s ICT sector and making the most of opportunities created by the global trend to cut carbon dioxide emissions and conserve energy, this massive public-sector investment will help create new blue-ocean opportunities for the industries of the future.
