Video Art Installation, “Chelsea Cinderella,” Opens at 15 Little West 12 in Meatpacking District

Owners Taconic Investment Partners and Square Mile Capital Management Bring New, Innovative Marketing Tool to NYC Commercial Real Estate

Taconic Investment Partners and Square Mile Capital Management present “Chelsea Cinderella,” a video art installation at 15 Little West 12, the Meatpacking District’s hottest new office and retail development. Each evening through June 1, West 13th Street will transform into an outdoor movie theater as the movie plays for the public.

15 Little West 12 is a newly built, 80,000-square-foot office and retail development spanning Little West 12th and West 13th streets. The five-story, block-through building offers four efficient full-floor office spaces, as well as ground-floor retail space. Designed as a nod to the neighborhood’s industrial and commercial past, distinctive features of 15 Little West 12 include: well-configured, loft-like spaces with ceiling heights that range from 12 to 18 feet; a brown-and-gray brick façade; and multiple large, industrial-style windows offering abundant natural light on the floor and incredible views of the Hudson River, Meatpacking District, The Standard Hotel, the High Line, Downtown and Midtown. Robert K. Futterman & Associates is marketing the retail portion, while Newmark Knight Frank is marketing the offices.

Using motion, light and the absence of light, “Chelsea Cinderella” tells the story of a young woman who comes to New York to build a successful personal and professional life. Flowing from window to window through ground and second floors of 15 Little West 12, the woman’s story transitions from ingénue New Yorker looking for work and love to an independent, successful woman. “Chelsea Cinderella” was created by artist and scientist Mark Yurkiw, best known for his creation of “The Homeless Statue of Liberty” for N.Y. Cares.

“My inspiration for this piece was Charles Perrault’s legendary folk tale, ‘Cinderella,’ considered by many to be the first inkling of the French Revolution,” said Yurkiw. “I saw the historical parallel between current political and cultural challenges and those tied to the original ‘Cinderella’ story. ‘Chelsea Cinderella,’ though, is the essence of New York and has been the city’s driving force throughout history. 15 Little West 12 was the perfect host for the installation; the building is the perfect showcase for the story and the Meatpacking District is one of those ever-evolving New York City neighborhoods that is symbolic of the character’s desire to advance.”
