Rimini, October 30th. In close collaboration with the president of AGI’s Italian division Leonardo Sonnoli Typevents LLP has organized their latest walking tour ”Typographic Rimini”, that was inaugurated on Saturday October 21st, 2006. Special guest for this tour, that was open to only a small group of experts invited, was James Mosley, historian of international recognition, former director of the London-based and world-famous St Bride Library and Professor for typography at the University of Reading.

“In Italy, my idea was taken up by Leonardo Sonnoli and it is the first time that a historical tour on typography, going back to the 15h century, has been created for a purpose of this kind. This tour outlines the various typographic treasures of the city of Rimini. Typevents has already proven success with similar walking tours in London and Birmingham, non of them historical to this extent, as it could only be in this adorable country.” says Simone Wolf, partner of Typevents LLP at the European office in Italy.

Officially starting from November 18th, monthly tours will be carried out (saturdays, starting at 2.30 pm, during the winter months), open to individuals as well as groups. In approx. two hours Leonardo Sonnoli will guide groups to approx. 8 stops with its various monuments, starting from the Augustus arche, moving on to Malatesta’s Temple and ending at the Tiberio bridge, pointing out their special typographic and epigraphic contribution of the 15th century.
“What makes Rimini rather important, seen from a typographic perspective, is not only its monuments of the 15th century, of which Alberti is to mention as one of the protagonists, but rather, that within a few footsteps you also find yourself in front of Roman works. And this is not only about admiring ancient epigraphy, but more about understanding that we nowadays are actually still working with the same letters” states Sonnoli and he further says “AGI Italy is giving patronage to this unique event, as it reflects its global outward objective of encouraging and endorsing activities that match the organizations philosophy and mission”.

James Mosley, who was the specialist invited for this tour and contributed with his decades of knowledge in this field, after the walk said “I enjoyed the walk despite the dampness. The company was so very agreeable and the quantity of good things to see was very rewarding.“
October 21st, 2006 was one of the rainiest days in Italy since months. But doesn’t this prove that passion for activity in Italy can’t stop anyone?

Future tours wil be conducted in English and Italian. For further information as well as for registration please go to the Typevents website at: http://www.typevents.com/index.php?id=127,0,0,1,0,0 or contact: simone@typevents.com
