Driver electronics for piezo stepping drives used for precision positioning.

The compact NEXACT piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI) push forward into a new performance class for linear drives: with high forces of 10 N, velocities of more than 10 mm/s, and at resolutions of a few nanometers they replace the typical stepper or DC servomotors in applications that depend on the combination of force and resolution on large travel ranges.

The E-862 driver electronics is the ideal control for the NEXACT drives when operated in open-loop or when used with an external positioning and velocity control. By using an analog input signal, the driver can be connected with external motion controllers or it can be controlled directly by using a joystick.

NEXACT piezo stepping drives are direct linear drives and are therefore not subject to precision losses due to a conversion of rotational to linear motion. The position is locked when not in operation, the drive does not need to have power supplied and does not heat up.

PI has been one of the leading players in the global market for precision positioning technology for 40 years. The piezoelectric ceramics used as drive elements, which generate a finely adjustable motion, play an essential role. In cooperation with the PI Ceramic subsidiary PI produces piezo drives to custom requirements.
This know-how allows PI to have a unique flexibility and a broad technological advance. In addition to its three German factories, PI has eight subsidiaries and a total of over 500 employees worldwide.
