11 September 2018, Frankfurt am Main

The first ECP Summer Summit / European Chemistry Partnering will take place on September 25, 2018 in Düsseldorf at the headquarters of the consumer and industrial goods company Henkel. The Brightlands Innovation Factory from the Netherlands will introduce eleven Start-up companies. These companies will present themselves for the first time in Germany, in this diversity, to decision-makers from industry as well as investors.

The eleven chemistry Start-ups are as diverse as chemistry itself. They cover topics that include ultra-light carbon materials, metal organic frameworks, cement that can be processed by injection molding, and the use of chicken egg membranes as raw materials for the cosmetics industry. The topic of sustainability is also driving Start-ups in the field of new processes and analytical methods, for example when minerals are made to react with carbon dioxide, laboratory processes are streamlined or when new portable devices help accelerate the analysis of biomolecules in liquids. All these Start-ups came to Brightlands’ Chemelot Campus to integrate themselves into its ecosystem and speed-up their business development.

Patrick van der Meer, Commercial Director at Brightlands Innovation Factory: "We decided to take part spontaneously: The European Chemistry Partnering is a unique melting pot for the coming together of decision-makers from the chemical industry and investors. We will take the opportunity to introduce our chemical Start-ups to a wider audience. The young entrepreneurs will have the chance to talk to many potential new partners through the short presentations (Pitches) and the Partnering: This is an important development step."

"We are very pleased that the Brightlands Innovation Factory is presenting its chemistry Start-ups all together at the first ECP Summer Summit," says Dr. Holger Bengs, initiator of the European Chemistry Partnering. "The presence of Brightlands Innovation Factory in this form in Germany is unique. As always, the ECP is all about thinking outside the box and meeting people from outside of one’s own industry. And we have impulses from the many, many of the segments adjacent to chemistry as well as other technical disciplines such as biotechnology or digitization, which perhaps already have a solution for the day-to-day problems at hand: We are very much looking forward to the impulses from our friends from the Netherlands".

The European Chemistry Partnering and the ECP Summer Summit are aimed at decision-makers from industry and investors. Representatives of large corporations, medium-sized companies as well as young growth companies and Start-ups all use the ECP format to engage in intensive exchange and generate new business contacts.

Background:

97 percent of all products contain at least one chemical process step: renewable raw materials, enzymes, industrial biotechnology, new processes, products from residual materials, digitization, etc. are changing the processes in chemical value creation: starting with purchasing logistics on to production and finally marketing and sales. Interdisciplinary exchange is gaining in importance. With the ECP, an international chemistry community is growing that wants to derive more innovation from what already exists.

European Chemistry Partnering: A brief overview

The European Chemistry Partnering is an event format in which the focus is on discussion about innovation along the chemical value chain. It is aimed at decision makers, innovation managers and investors in the chemical industry and its user industries, as well as industry-focused stakeholders and qualified service providers and consultants. The ECP consists of the elements: Keynote Speech, Partnering, Pitches, Exhibition and Final Panel. Companies can describe their innovations in short presentations (Pitches) and arrange appointments via a software tool in advance (Partnering). The European Chemistry Partnering was conceived and initiated by Dr. Holger Bengs, Managing Director of BCNP Consultants GmbH. The first event took place on 16th February 2017 in Frankfurt am Main. From 2018 onwards the ECP will occur twice a year. In February the venue is Frankfurt. In late summer, the ECP Summer Summit takes place in changing locations.
