Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a programmable semiconductor device, which is function specific and reprogrammable according to the desired application. FPGA allows system designers to use silicon-based devices instead of merchant silicon. The latest FPGA version supports high-speed serial lanes up to 32GB/sec and integrate hard IP for 100G Ethernet, PCI Express Gen4, and DDR4 memory controllers.
Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is used to implement a logical function that an application-specific integrated circuit is supposed to perform. FPGAs use pre-built logic blocks and programmable routing channels for implementing custom hardware functionality that depends on the embedded system developer. FPGAs are configured and programmed using Hardware Description Language (HDL) such as VHDL and Verilog.

Smaller devices provide control functionality & interfacing, where larger devices enable complete system design in one or more FPGAs. Field programmable gate array is used in many applications within networking and telecom systems such as packet processing and switching, and optical transport network (OTN). In many situations, FPGAs are used to connect between merchant silicon devices together for providing proprietary functionality. FPGA are the devices which enable users to create their digital circuits. These devices are based around a matrix of configurable logic blocks, connected via programmable interconnects. Imaging equipment and automobile industry widely use FPGA as compared to other segments.

The low-end FPGAs dominated the market in 2018 due to low cost and high-performance capabilities. This type of FPGA is mostly used in displays used in military and automotive sectors.
