Due to criminal incidents recorded in various states of the country, federal agencies are now tightening up the online dating security measures. These new laws would make criminal background checks mandatory for those who are looking for dating or matchmaking services online.“Though it is very important to have criminal background checks for online dating members, however, it would take more time to make it practically viable in true sense, “ Kathy Sebastian, Public Relation Manager at DatingServices-Online.net said. “Today, members of online dating services prefer to have lesser paperwork and hassles to start up dating quickly. Compulsion of new criminal checks background laws might slow down growth of online dating industry. It may even create negative impact on people looking for love online,” she expressed her concern.
Though law is not enforced widely in all states, New York is the first state, which has law regulating online dating and matchmaking sites. Other states California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia and Texas have either introduced criminal background checks laws or they are in pipeline. On the other hands, some states prefer online dating services must alert their members for profiles which have not yet completed criminal background checks.
While defending online dating service provided by dating industry, Kathy Sebastian further said, “we are providing online dating service to the adults and hence, we expect our members to read our online dating guidelines and privacy policy before taking relationship up ahead. We insist our members to have criminal background checks if you meet some one from our millions of database. Even if you have it, this does not guarantee the full safety. All services that rely on public records, it cannot guarantee. After all, your safety is in your hands.”
