Since it s celebrated in the month of Shravan which marks the beginning of Monsoon in India, it is also known as Shravan Teej and Choti Teej symbolizing the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The term 'Hariyali' in Hariyali Teej stands for greenery associated with monsoon. This festival which also symbolizes happiness and prosperity is widely celebrated in states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar. With students from various parts of India, it goes without saying that Banasthali is indeed a melting pot of various cultures.Banasthali Vidyapith, welcomed Teej on 13 Aug 2018 with great vigor and celebrated the same in befitting traditional manner. Students adorned their hands with beautiful henna, accompanied by a larger dose of popular Bollywood numbers along with traditional Teej songs. Everyone dressed up in bright hues with green dominating to welcome the monsoon. Everyone took turns to joyfully swing on the swings outside every hostel.
But the biggest hit amongst the students was the food as usual. A special lunch was served, which consisted of mouthwatering Indian delicacies like paneer, chhole, puri, raita and dal makhani. The best part of the meal was the dessert – mouth water harvesting Ghevar which is something extra special to Rajasthan. Everyone was given a generous serving of ghevar which is specially prepared only on Teej.
To quote Ms Anuska Singh third year BTech Chemical student “The drizzle on the night of 13 Aug 2018 at Banasthali indicated that the monsoon duly accepted the heartfelt welcome by Banasthalites.”
When it comes to celebrating festivals as well as days of national and international importance, the enthusiasm by students of Banasthali is truly unbelievable and unputdownable also.
