1st International Conference on Film and Memorialisation

Welcome to the '1st International Conference on Film and Memorialisation' at the School of Design, University of Applied Sciences, Schwaebisch Hall, Germany and in collaboration with the School of Creative Media, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Thematic discussion will explore how memory, places, identity and the past coexist within film and the moving image through the presentation of academic papers and the screening of film and video artworks.

A selection of conference papers will be published in 'Film and Memory Quarterly', a refereed academic e-journal to be released in November 2006. A further selection of papers will be submitted as a book proposal to Cambridge University Press in March 2007. Please check the website for updates.

The School of Creative Media was established at RMIT University in the mid 1990s as a bridge between the visual arts and digital media. Hosting both undergraduate programs in film and television, design and multimedia, gaming and virtual technologies, and postgraduate programs in creative and screen writing, photography, animation and interactive media, the school is positioned at the forefront of national and international collaboration.

Research projects in Creative Media currently occur in art and in design as advanced research and at post-doctoral and postgraduate levels as either discipline-based projects or cross-disciplinary collaborations. There is also an increasing awareness and focus on the necessity to find sustainable means not only within research projects but to also develop research into sustainable practice itself.
