PMMMNMTT Banasthali FDP Dr Jakir Hussain Central Water Commission Talks on Water Resources and Quality

Faculty Development Centre at Banasthali organized a one week Faculty Development Program (FDP) under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) on the theme “Interdisciplinary Dimensions of Chemical Engineering” during 21 – 27 July 2018. Chemical Engineering Department Banasthali facilitated the program with Prof BR Natarajan as Coordinator, Prof Satish Shukla as Convenor and Mr Deepak Kumar as Co Convenor.

PMMMNMTT is a path breaking scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD, Government of India. Only top ranking institutions in India today have been identified under PMMMNMTT as Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and Pedagogy to facilitate the professional and personal development of teachers which is vital for achieving the goals of quality education. It is a matter of great pride that Banasthali which is world’s largest fully residential women’s University with Quacquarelli Symonds QS Four Star Ranking and Diamond Status is one such centre for Faculty Development.

Chemical Engineering is undoubtedly a highly interdisciplinary field of study concerned with materials and processes at the heart of a broad range of technologies. The theme attracted faculty members from diverse disciplines and 30 participants registered for the program which was inaugurated by Shri Amit Kumar Scientific Officer F Nuclear Power Corporation of India NPCIL Rawatbhata Rajasthan on 21 Jul 2018 with a talk on Challenges in Nuclear Power Technology.

Central Water Commission is a premier Technical Organization of India in the field of Water Resources and is presently functioning as an attached office of the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. The Commission is entrusted with the general responsibilities of initiating, coordinating and furthering in consultation of the State Governments concerned, schemes for control, conservation and utilization of water resources throughout the country, for purpose of Flood Control, Irrigation, Navigation, Drinking Water Supply and Water Power Development. It also undertakes the investigations, construction and execution of any such schemes as required.

On 27 July 2018 Dr Jakir Hussain from Central Water Commission gave a talk on Water Resources and Water Quality with particular emphasis on River Water. Prof BR Natarajan welcomed him with a bouquet as well as Banasthali unique tradition Khadi garland and presented a glittering memento on behalf of the host institution. When Prof Natarajan jokingly said that Dr Jakir Hussain was Eid ka Chand who had come on Guru Poornima Day to Banasthali, there was a thunderous round of applause.

The talk was attended by third year BTech Chemical Engineering students who are presently undergoing a course on Environmental Pollution and Control who expressed their keen desire to do internship work at Central Water Commission in their final year.

In the valedictory function which was graced by Prof Jaya Dwivedi Dean Life Sciences and Prof Dipjyoti Chakraborty Dean Research, the FDP participants received the certificates from Dr Jakir Hussain.
