Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) is a Scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The aim of the scheme which has an outlay of 900 crores during XIIth plan period is to improve the quality of school and higher education by addressing comprehensively all issues related to teachers, teaching, teacher preparation, professional development, Curriculum Design, Designing and Developing Assessment & Evaluation methodology, Research in Pedagogy and developing effective Pedagogy.

Top ranking institutions in India today have been identified under PMMMNMTT as Centre of Excellence in Curriculum and Pedagogy to facilitate the professional and personal development of teachers which is vital for achieving the goals of quality education. It is a matter of great pride that Banasthali which is world’s largest fully residential women’s University with Quacquarelli Symonds QS Four Star Ranking and Diamond Status is one such centre for Faculty Development.

Chemical Engineering is undoubtedly a highly interdisciplinary field of study concerned with materials and processes at the heart of a broad range of technologies. The expertise of chemical engineers is essential to production, marketing, and applications in such areas as biochemical engineering, polymer, geology, energy efficient processes, process safety and hazard analysis, reaction engineering, environmental science & engineering and nanotechnology. Increasingly chemical engineers are involved in new technologies employing highly novel materials whose unusual response at the molecular level endows them with unique properties.

Faculty Development Centre at Banasthali organized a one week Faculty Development Program on the theme “Interdiscilpinary Dimensions of Chemical Engineering” during 21 – 27 July 2018. Chemical Engineering Department Banasthali facilitated the program with Prof BR Natarajan as Coordinator, Prof Satish Shukla as Convenor and Mr Deepak Kumar as Co Convenor. The theme attracted faculty members from diverse disciplines and 30 participants registered for the program which was inaugurated by Shri Amit Kumar Scientific Officer F Nuclear Power Corporation of India NPCIL Rawatbhata Rajasthan with a talk on Challenges in Nuclear Power Technology. Prof Jaya Dwivedi Dean Life Sciences and Prof Sarvesh Paliwal Dean Instructions Banasthali also graced the inaugural function. One significant aspect of the program was field visit to NPCIL Rawatbhata Rajasthan site on 24 July 2018.

Subsequent lectures included Talk on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance NMR Spectroscopy by Dr Rakesh Yadav Banasthali Pharmacy Department, a hands on demonstration of NMR working by Dr Ved Praksh Verma Banasthali Chemistry Department, Advanced Process Control by Dr Rajeev Dohare MNIT Jaipur, PLC in automation by Mr Chandraveer Singh Banasthali Automation Department, Robust Design by Prof Om Prakash Yadav North Dakota State University USA, Remote Sensing Technologies by Dr Chilka Sharma Banasthali Geology Department, Thermolysis of Waste Water by Dr Abhinesh Prajapati IES IPS Academy Indore, Holocene – Anthropocene – Maghalayan Age by Prof BR Natarajan Banasthali Chemical Engineering, Fermentation Technology by Mr Anand Prakash Banasthali Biotechnology Department, Nanotechnology and spectroscopy by Dr Saral Kumar Gupta Banasthali Physics Department, Characterization of Nano particles by Dr Vivek Dave Banasthali Pharmacy Department and Issues in Water Quality and pollution by Dr Jakir Hussain Central Water Commission CWC New Delhi.

The valedictory function on 27 July 2018 which also befittingly coincided with Guru Purnima was graced by Prof Dipjyoti Chakraborty Dean of Research at Banasthali and Prof Jaya Dwivedi Dean Life Sciences Banasthali and the participants received the certificates from Dr Jakir Hussain.
