"The recruitment cycle in the education industry is longer than in many others," explained Adam Caller, founder of Tutors International. "Many families simply don't appreciate the fact that it takes time to not only find suitable candidates, but that once they've been found, the notice period of a school term can be anything up to three months. It can be hard to appreciate that the recruitment of a tutor starting in September 2010 needs to begin in January, but there's no getting away from the fact that if the process is started later, it gets harder for us to find the very best candidates in the time left available."

"The recruitment process begins with an extensive interview with the family, and from that I create a detailed brief that's used in our recruitment materials," Adam explained. "Ideally, that brief is released by the end of January, giving us enough time to review candidates and make a shortlist before the Easter break. This means that the final candidate can hand in their notice at the end of the spring term, work out the summer term notice period and be free to start with the family in the summer or early autumn.
